What Do You Consider Valuable?

II Corinthians 4:18 "While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen: for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal."

Parents are teaching their children what is of higher value. It is very obvious with a lot of people in our churches today that they put more value on material things and entertainment than they do the church and missionaries God calls to go out and preach the gospel.

Giving money to the church or to support missionaries is hardly even considered. Spending time in the Word of God is not as valuable as spending time in front of the television. Listening to preaching or godly music isn't as valuable as listening to that favorite country music or some other ungodly music. A lot of families spend their Sundays and Wednesday evenings relaxing in their homes rather than being in the House of God. They'd rather work on their cars...mow their yards...go fishing and/or hunting or attend their favorite sporting event than darken the doors of the church. What do you think this teaches the children?

Mark 8:36 "For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?" The children sure aren't being taught that a person's soul (including their own) is valuable. Our children learn from their parents what is important.

If parents would train their children up that the church...missionaries and getting the gospel out is valuable...then the children are more likely to train up their children the same way.

We should all "check up" on what we are teaching our children is of more value. Before you are quick to say that your values are in the places they ought to be...remember there are many people who are in church faithfully and paying tithes and giving to missions yet don't put much emphasis on it. They put more emphasis on the material things they own or want to own.

My prayer is that I'd always keep my values where they need to be...on God...His will...and His work!!

Mrs Julie good post. YOu are right I wonder what are kids in church believe is more valuable. O as you have said the parent has no problem laying out of church on a night service and they wonder why when there child gets old enough they don't want to go to church. I pray God would help me also to keep my values where they need to be at.

It is rather dismaying at times to look into my own life and sometimes observe in others(probaly shouldn't do that) where we keep our priorities...such a pleasure orientated society and times....we just don't get it..do we?...Life is short and people are going to Hell everyday...
Thanks for this Julie, friend.

sis. deby....I think it would shock people to know how many people die each and every day and go to Hell. I know it saddens my heart and that I can be doing more. I want to show my kids what is most valuable. It is up to us to set the example for our children.

Sis Julie,
you are so right... we consider ourselves to be very good Christians, yet how many of us take the opportunity to stay home for the least little excuse...when we should be in the house of God... because we are an example to our children... and our neighbors also notice when we leave the house with our Bibles in our hands...

so as Christians we have a hugh responsibility to be the kind of witness God intended
thanks for this post...I needed the reminder...

Good post Julie. Materialism is a sign of the end times and is rampant in society, yea, even our churches. No one is rich until they have what money can't buy - salvation in the Lord Jesus Christ and the peace that passeth all understanding. What a different world we would live in if people would seek the riches that God has to offer!

Julie, I wanted to thank you for so sweetly commenting on my blog. I am sorry I haven't commented here in awhile. I have been SO SICK! I went to North Carolina on a business trip and came back with a wicked flu bug. Twelve days of my life were spent doing a whole lot of nothing because of it. ARGH!
I'll be back again soon!

Wow, this is awesome!!! Nothing is worth eternity in hell ... NOTHING! A wise elderly man once told me "Eternity is too long and hell's fire too hot for me not to be saved!" He's right!

What a timely reminder...and sooo incredibly true. I know just in the prayers that our missionaries covet...I don't concentrate nearly enough even in this. Thank you so much for the encouragement in this area.~Heather

Sis. Julie,
In this country we have found the lack of emphasis on being in church when the doors are open has been a major detrement to this society. On Sun. & Wed. nights the parents will take turns staying home with the children so that they can go to bed early for school instead of bringing them to the House of God.
Now, you can hardly find any young couples and children who feel the need for church. It was not a priority when they were young so why should it be now. I would rather have my children in the Lord's house and know God than to make sure they are in bed on time for school and go to Hell!

I appreciate your post.

Love,
Sis. Tammy

sis. tammy....our pastor always told us that sports and knowing the three R's would not be what gets us to heaven but rather knowing the Saviour in a real and personal way. How does one know and learn of the Saviour unless they are in the House of God? Parents are doing a real disservice to their children by staying home and laying out of church.

Great post Julie and it very much spoke to my heart. It's a good reminder that even though we may be "doing" these things(going to church, tithing, supporting missions, ect...) we may not really value them in our hearts and lives.
