Christian Character: Peacemaker or Discorder

I will be doing some posts on notes I took from services at campmeeting. I do not outline as some do. I just take notes and write down things that seem important to note. So I hope they aren't too hard to follow and they bless you the way they blessed me.

Matthew 5:9 "Blessed are the peacemakers: for they shall be called the children of God."

We ought to be labeled as a peacemaker. We are to be different. There is much carnality in churches today.

We must remember that the devil knows our weaknesses and he will use those weaknesses to get to us.

The peacemaker is the mark of a Christian. According to vs. 3 "Blessed are the poor in spirit: for theirs is the kingdom of heaven." Verse 8 is a prerequisite to verse 9. "Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God." A person needs to be pure in heart. It's tough in the day we live in to live godly. Our flesh rises up in opposition all the time.

Pure in heart is one who has been purged in their heart. It comes by being born-again. God puts a love in a born-again believer that will cause you to love others.

Many are trying to live a Christian life without being saved but it is impossible to do. I Peter 1:22 "Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:" That person is pure in their thoughts. Thoughts will come into our minds. That is not the sin. The sin is when we dwell on or meditate on it. Proverbs 26:20 "Where no wood is, there the fire goeth out: so where there is no talebearer, the strife ceaseth." If people keep their mouths shut when they hear something the fire will go out. Peacemakers are like firemen to a fire. That peacemaker will keep things from going on. A discorder on the other hand will add fuel to the fire and keep it burning.

Being a peacemaker builds real Christian character.

Ephesians 4:1-3 "I therefore, the prisoner of the Lord, beseech you that ye walk worthy of the vocation wherewith ye are called, With all lowliness and meekness, with longsuffering, forbearing one another in love; Endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. We need to be longsuffering with others. To do so is to be an example of Christ. We need to be willing to forgive others as well. People need to see the beauty of Christ in us. To be a peacemaker is to show forth the beauty of Christ.

Proverbs 15:18a "A wrathful man stirreth up strife:" Discord that's sown will destroy. Jealousy is wicked. Jealousy is often the reason for the sowing of discord. These things God hates....Proverbs 6:16-19 "These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren." Discord causes division and destroys.

These are my notes taken from a message preached by Bro. Garland Odom on Monday morning June 25, 2007 at Faith Baptist Camp.

Welcome back Sis. Julie! It sure sounds like you were blessed at camp meeting.

I love this quote of yours: Many are trying to live a Christian life without being saved but it is impossible to do. So true. Many try live by a "good works" mentality. What a relief we can't be peacemakers without the Spirit of Christ living within us. Remembering that fact lowers our expectations of unbelievers, doesn't it?

Have a blessed Fourth of July! :~)

sis. theresa...we all tend to struggle with forgiving others at one time or another. Thank God we have the forgiveness of God that helps us to be forgiving toward others. I'm glad you received a blessing from this.

What a great post. So glad you took notes, girl! Boy the seventh sin listed there in Pro. 6: He that soweth discord amonth the brethren. If we ALL could really get ahold of that in our lives, what a difference we would see in all areas of our lives, but especially in our churches.

sis. pam....I know what you mean. I believe this is a major sin in our churches. It hinders the move of God in our services as well.

VERY IMPORTANT!

Are you a good person? Take this test and find out.
