God Has Forgotten...But Have You?

Psalm 103:12 "As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us."

I don't know about you but I have a problem at times with remembering my sin from my life before I got saved. And I did a lot of things. The devil likes to bring them back up and throw them in my face. But you know what God says? I John 2:12 "I write unto you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for his name's sake." God has forgiven my sins. Those were taken care of on Calvary. At the time I confessed my sins to Him and asked Him to come into my heart and save me He forgave and forgot them. He removed them from me as far as the east is from the west. My husband describes it this way...when you go north...you will eventually go south. When you go south....you will eventually go north. But when you go east you always go east and when you go west you always go west. You will NEVER catch up to your sin!! You'll never find yourself going opposite as long as you keep going forward. So we must forget those past sins. So if you know you've been forgiven...forget about them. God has!!

Now...here is something else I was thinking about in relation to this subject. We have a tendency to allow ourselves to go back to a sin that was committed against us and being upset all over again with the person or people who committed that sin against us. God tells us we are to forgive those who trespass against us. And what comes with forgiveness? Forgetting!! God has forgiven us our trespasses and forgotten them and if we are to be like Christ then we must do the same. I think this is a very difficult thing for some people to do. But with prayer and God's grace I believe we can do this.

When you find yourself going back to past sins...just remember that God says "What sins are you talking about?" He has forgotten and so should we. Both the sins we ourselves have committed and the sins others have committed against us.

When we think of forgetting, we often picture the idea of never thinking about that thing again - never thinking again about the sin that was committed against us. But then we falter when something causes it to come back to mind. But when it comes to forgiveness, forgetting is used in a different sense.

When we look at what it means for God to remember something (ie. to actively do something about it), then I believe that when God forgets our sins and iniquities, it means that He no longer charges them against us anymore. See God Remembered.

Those reading your blog entry today may appreciate this study from Psalm 37: Grace To Fret Not

When I preached on God Remembered last month, a woman recapped what I said with this phrase, "God doesn't forget, but He forgives." Meaning, that His forgiveness is not based upon whether He knows about the sin or not (He is all-knowing), but what He does with that knowledge: He no longer actively holds it against us, wipes it from His books, blots it out forever! Praise the Lord!

Hebrews 10:17 And their sins and iniquities will I remember no more.

bro. jerry...thanks for adding to my post. I guess I should have clarified more what I was trying to say. But I can always count on you to come by and help me out. I don't want to post anything that is out of context in the Scriptures.

bro. tim...I'm glad you got a blessing from this post. Preacher isn't disappointed in you. I just hate it that nothing is working out for him in finding someone to cover for him. He'll just go and pray for strength and grace to get through it.

"God tells us we are to forgive those who trespass against us."

This is so true and a great reminder. If we don't do this we can end up full of bitterness and resentment and that is not a good attitude to have, as it spills out into all ares of our life.

Love you, Lyndy

mishel....I'm glad to hear you are getting better each day that goes by. Thank you for leaving a comment. I do realize that there are many who come by my blog that never leave a comment though. Its always nice when someone does leave a comment. Especially new ones that never have. It wasn't till I got my tracker on my site that tells me how many visit and where they are from that I realized just how many come by and don't leave comments. It's not a requirement to do so but it is a blessing when someone does.

What a loving and forgiving Lord we serve. Can you imagine if He remembered everyone one?

As we go through trials in life, sometimes forgetting other people sins against us is very hard. It is human nature to throw it up at them when we become upset. There are things that are very hard to forget and I try and think about it this way; if God, our Father, our maker can forget them . . . I should be able to as well!!! When we forget, we feel so much better and then true forgiveness is accomplished!

Awesome post sis!!

sis. cristina....I'm so glad He has chosen to remember no more ALL of our sins. And that is past, present and future!! AMEN!!

sis. cindy....I've had to forget a lot of sins against me. The hardest one was my husband leaving me and our kids like he did before we got saved. It took me a long time to get to where I didn't dwell on that and the devil would try to use that in my life to get between my husband and I after we were saved and had a new marriage. But to God be the glory that is not the case anymore. When the devil tries to remind me of those times I remind him of what God did and that a miracle took place in our home...we are more in love today than ever before!!

VERY IMPORTANT!
