Praise And Prayer For My Hubby

First of all I would like to thank the Lord for His protection with my hubby. For the second time I got a call about my hubby being in a wreck at work. I got the call this time from my hubby though. He knew how it freaked me out the last time I got a call about him being in a wreck. So this time he called right after he wrecked so I wouldn't have to get a call from his supervisor. Last time it was his police chief that called me which scared me to death.

The first time involved him hitting a tree by running into it going 45 mph without hitting the brakes. This time also involved a tree. We got about 4 inches of snow yesterday which was quite dangerous. Here in Georgia we don't have the capability to handle the work load of the icy roads.

He was at work and responding to an overturned vehicle and when he took a curve on his way there he lost control of his patrol car and slid off the road and down an embankment and hit a tree on the driver's side back door. The tree came into his car 2 feet. This is where I know God protected. The paramedics said had it hit his front driver's side door he would have been busted up really bad. So we are thankful it is just his leg. His left leg hit his door with such force that it fractured his shin bone at the top of the bone. It is a vertical fracture just below his knee. It will require surgery to put screws in the bone so that it will heal properly. The surgery cannot be done until the swelling goes down. His knee is swollen the same size as his thigh.

He is not getting much pain relief at all. We will probably be back in the ER before the weekend is out. So please pray for him concerning his pain.

But through it all GOD IS GOOD!!! Thank you for your prayers!!

This is good news that he is ok. You will be in my thoughts. Hope God keeps you both secure under his wings...

Don't be afraid to ask for stronger pain killers if what he is taking isn't working. So many people are afraid of painkillers, afraid they will get addicted, and this is not the case if you have pain like this!

My nursing school teachers explained it like this: the pain medicine is like a Pac Man, and the dots are the pain. You need enough medication to eat the dots.

Lots of options--ask for them! Pain FREE is not realistic, manageable pain is.

Praise the Lord for His watchful care. Soooo glad that he is okay. I can only image how freaked you were last time. Although in saying that, at least it wasn't a police cruiser pulling up outside the house to tell you about the accident. I think I could handle it by phone better than the other way, you just always think the worst when their car pull up out front.

Tell him I said his name is not George, but he really must, "WATCH OUT FOR THAT TREE!" LOL

Love you all,
Sis. Tammy

Stacy....thank you so much for the prayers!! They mean so much!!

Sunny...The only way they would prescribe something different was if I took him back to the ER to be seen again. I called and the orthopedist wouldn't prescribe anything without having seen him first...and the pharmacy won't take phone in pain narcotics prescriptions. So it was go back to the ER or do nothing. My hubby refused to go back to the ER so he just continued to take the pain meds and eventually he got enough of them in him to help the pain. He now has an appointment with his orthopedist tomorrow (Tuesday) afternoon.

Thank you for your encouragement and helpful words. I sure wish it would have been that easy to get him some different meds.

Sis. Tammy....I told Ron what you said and he just grinned :o) You are right about the pulling up of the police car. When he was in his last wreck while at work...I got a call from the police chief. He didn't want me to be scared this time so instead he called me right after it happened. He called his Captain first then called me. I appreciated him doing that. It was much different walking into his ER room this time. Last time he was covered with blood and broken glass from his car windows. I definitely reacted better this time.

Love y'all and thank you for praying!!!

I'm sorry you couldn't get him to go back in :-( I'm not sure what he's taking, but please be careful if it contains tylenol (often listed on narctics such as vicodin as "apap" and the amount will say somthing like 5/500, or 5/325 for percocet). The samller number indicates the amount of the narcotic, and the larger number is the amount of tylenol. Keep under 4grams (4,000mg) a day of the tylenol.

Sorry...I'm a nurse and pain management is a big deal to me!

Sunny....Thank you for your information and advice. He is now taking them like he has been prescribed to. Before he was taking more than prescribed and it was really scaring me. He is sleeping a lot with his pain meds which he and I both hate...but he hurts too bad when he is awake. We go to have his ct scan done tomorrow (Monday the 22nd) and then get the results when we go back to his ortho dr on Tuesday. We'll know then what the dr is going to do.

Sis Julie, sorry that I had not seen this until now. I am glad this accident was not as bad as it could be. How is your hubby doing now? Praying that there are no complications and for God's grace and strength in his healing.

Bro. Jerry...He is doing pretty good. He had surgery last Thursday and has two screws in his shin bone at the top of the bone to reinforce the fracture he has. He has some pain of course and goes a longer period of time without the meds....he cannot put ANY weight on his left leg at all for a few weeks. Thank you for your prayers. It has been hard at times since he is not a happy camper having to be at home all the time right now. And I can't say that I blame him for that. I just try to do the best I can to take care of him.
