Where Is Your Focus?

James 1:17 "Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning."

We are approaching the "season" of giving. I was thinking about this thing of giving. It is always such a blessing to receive. But I enjoy giving much more than receiving. But when receiving the gifts we receive they all come from our Heavenly Father. He chooses to use individuals such as you and me to be the vessel He uses to give those gifts that are given.

When receiving a gift....what do you focus on most? Do you focus most on the gift you received? Do you say with your mouth "Thank you so much" but in your heart you are saying "Why did they get me this...I don't really like this or need this"? That is our flesh feeling that way. Our flesh wants to focus most on that gift. Our flesh doesn't want to recognize the true source of that gift we received. God is that source. The Holy Spirit within us will make us feel genuinely thankful for that gift.

We should always remember that God is the One Who gives the gifts that we receive. He just uses people to give it. Yes He is the giver of the spiritual gifts that we receive each day....grace...mercy...longsuffering...strength...etc. But where do you think that strength comes from for that person to work for the money to purchase the gift you receive? God gives that strength. Where do you think the ability comes from for that person to work that job that provides the money to purchase that gift? God gives it!! So the true source of every gift we receive is God!! Let us not lose sight of that and forget to praise Him and thank Him for those gifts we receive whether they be physical gifts or spiritual gifts.

So as you open those gifts that you receive this time of year....or any time for that matter....remember Who it is that is blessing you with that gift. And when thanking them for it....also thank your Heavenly Father for it.

Yes.....WE are given so much more than we ever deserve...and I fear that with each generation we have become more and more THANKLESS and so assuming...or thinking we have a right or deserve something..
I too...LOVE to give...not to win favor or anything..but to give from my heart.......NOW IF I give something and that person cannot use it or it is not their thing..I would much rather know they are re-gift or return/exchange...rather than letting something collect dust or sit in a drawer....it is always the thought that counts...
I am thankful...last night...my dh ran into the grocery store...after our Wedn night service..he came out with a SURPRISE..or GIFT for me..you know what....
A JAR of PICKLES..I didn't ask for it..but he knows how much I love them and we have been out....much better than roses...or anything..it was because he thought of me and my desires albeit....a Jar of pickles..but it sure made my day..
Thankful for the gift of your blog and all the work you put into it, Julie.

sis. deby....how funny that you would mention the surprise of a jar of pickles being such a wonderful gift. My husband got three huge jars of the large whole kosher dills for his birthday. He loves them!! In fact...he hadn't had any in so long that this week when I went shopping I asked him if he needed anything and he said "Yes"...."A big jar of pickles!!". So I got them for him of course and you know what...they are almost gone already. Where we like chocolate or some such thing....he just wants his pickles.

Thank you for your sweet comments Sister!! You bless my heart with your continued visits and comments.

thank you for reminding us of the presence of God in all our gifts... with that in mind... we should appreciate all gifts.. and we should never receive a bad gift, knowing that God's hand was in the purchase of the gift...
I think we can all stand to be reminded of this...
have a wonderful day...

This was such a great post! It is so important to remember the heart and intention behind the gift, and above all, as you said., the ultimate Source of every gift! I can only echo what others have said about how much I need to be reminded of this!

VERY IMPORTANT!

Are you a good person? Take this test and find out.
