Are Christian Bookstores Really Christian?

What got me dwelling on this thing is all the ads that I'm getting in the mail at home and we're getting at the church of the so-called "Christian" bookstores advertising their products that they sell in their stores.

The word Christian means Christ-like. This thing about the "Christian" bookstores has bothered me for a long time now. If Christian means Christ-like then shouldn't the store itself have a testimony of being like Christ? Well...they sell books that they call bibles that are perverted versions of the Word of God. They sell writings by heretics that blaspheme the Almighty God. They sell music that is wicked and ungodly. They hire cashiers and people to work in their stores that have earrings and colored hair. They let the women in the store wear breeches and dress contrary to how the Word of God says to dress. Is any of this Christ-like? I say absolutely not!! It burns me so bad when I go into these places to get the good material that is in there (and it is becoming less and less all the time I've been noticing) and see the people dressed and looking like they do and then to hear the ungodly music they play as I shop there. Then you see on displays books like "The Purpose Driven Life" that is leading thousands of people contrary to what God says.

As far as I'm concerned...these stores are not "Christian" bookstores but are "Religious" bookstores. Religion is being masqueraded as Christian everywhere you look. Yet we cannot even hear Christmas being mentioned anywhere in stores. It is "Happy Holidays" so as not to offend anyone. Folks...look for "Christian" influence to be done away with little by little. We who truly know Christ need to take a stand and live as God wants us to and present ourselves as Christians...Christ-like!!!

Julie, I came to your blog by way of Deputy Domain (Jodi happens to be my daughter)..
I was surprised to find someone who love lighthouses as much as I do...
I am in agreement with you concerning the "Religious Bookstores" they are following the way of many churches today... Rick Warren seems to have started a trend of "feel good religion"..come visit me at my blog

Mrs Julie Amen nothing Christian about the Christian bookstores. You might find some things that are Christian but most is religious. Good Post!! Have you done this one before.

I have the same problem w/the credit card offers from the 'christian' bookstores.

sista cala....we don't get those. Just the advertisement booklets. It grieves me each time we get one and I see what all they are selling.

I agree! I haven't shopped in one in years because I just can't find anything worthwhile in there anymore.

Preach on Sista!

It is so good to be back to blogging some. I have wondered about you often...

It is good to know you are hanging in there when it comes to the blogging world.

I hope to 'see' you a lot more as I have time to get on here a little more often since school has started back up.

mrs. b...I sure don't shop in them near as much as I used to. I can overlook the things they sell when I'm trying to find what I'm looking for (which is a real chore by the way) but they often play that "Christian" rock and other ungodly music while you shop. My love for music tends to keep me tuned in to what I'm hearing when music is playing and it grieves my spirit so badly I can't stand to be in there more than a couple of seconds. I just hate it!!

Last time I was in our "Christian" book store, I was trying and find some used school books. But left after about 20 minutes because of the music that was playing. This was about 3 years ago now and have not been back.

This is a very good post.

sis. theresa...I know what you mean. I know I didn't use any scripture to do this post...I guess I was just getting on my soap box so to speak and sharing my thoughts. I did this post a couple of years ago on my old blog (the one that I lost) and happened to have copied it off to save. I'm glad I did...I pretty much posted that post but added some to it too. I guess I'm not alone in this thing of disgust for those places.

I love this post. I don't even go to them anymore. It's too depressing.

I go once in a while if I know I want something they may have. But they should just be labeled as "religious" stores so that all the false religions they promote in there are all covered. I don't feel like it would be a lie to label them "religious" because they do have things from a lot of different belief systems, and if they were to advertize them truthfully as religious stores I'd have a bit more respect for them.

When we compromise the pure gospel our ears begin to be 'tickled' by strange doctrine. We must, as students of the Word, guard against this.

We have a nice Bible book store near our home but I sure am saddened by the ill doctrine offered and the entire row of psychology religion. Amazingly tragic, imho.

I have a friend who has purchased book after book to try and understand a challenging time in her life. When really, all she needed was the Living Word and **more** time to submit to the King, seeking His best in every area of her life.

To that end, how often do we as ladies, seek the opinion of friends if we have troubles, but don't first seek the One who is always there and knows how it'll all turn out...so we can trust HIM rather than the opinion of others.

Set my heart right before You Lord. In You is my all and all.<><
