Are You Obeying God In Every Thing?

James 4:17 "Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin."

This is one of the most convicting verses in the Word of God to me. God has used it to help me in many areas of my life. I first noticed this verse with conviction when I was a young Christian. God was dealing with me about this area of how to dress according to the Word of God. My getting rid of my breeches was a very difficult thing for me to do. I was facing alot of persecution from family (outside our home) and friends (even those that say they are saved). It wasn't popular to dress godly...and it still isn't popular today. When God showed me this verse I realized that by me not doing what He told me in His Word to do that I was sinning against Him. I certainly didn't want to be disobedient to the One Who saved me and died for me. And after getting victory in that area of my life the Lord has used this verse to help me to do right in many other areas of my Christian life as well.

Why is it we struggle so much with obeying the Word of God anyway? We have no problem obeying our boss at the job when he/she wants us to do something. We have no problem obeying others in our lives that we respect. If we will obey them then how much more should we obey the One Who suffered such as He did on Calvary and died for us? We owe Him everything!!! And it is no big sacrifice to give up things in our life or to obey Him in everything when we think of what all He did for us. I have given up alot in my life and have learned to live for God. I'm not perfect and I give God all the glory for what I am today. I have a long way to go. But I always want to be obedient to what He wants me to do and where He wants me to go. Memorize James 4:17 and let the Holy Spirit remind you often that when you disobey or don't do what God is telling you to do that you are sinning against Him.

"...Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice..." I Samuel 15:22

Sis. Sarah....

Breeches is the biblical term for pants. You will find that term used in many different portions of Scripture. I had thought about putting in paranthesis that they were the biblical term for pants...but I just didn't. I guess I should have. I'm sorry I didn't clarify that term.

Thanks, Julie. I looked up 'breeches' in the King James and was able to find the four scriptures that translate that word from the original Hebrew into the Olde English 'breeches'. (I believe they were in Exodus, Leviticus and Ezekial). I usually use New American Standard or Expanded Translation, so I wasn't familiar with the Olde English terminology. Thanks for clarifying.

VERY IMPORTANT!
