The Legend of the Dogwood

I was out driving to my daughter's doctor appointment and was noticing how all the dogwood trees are in full bloom right now. As I was noticing the beauty of them I was reminded of this legend that I had once heard about. I know some of you may already have heard about it but thought that maybe someone may not have. I thought I would share it and let it bless you as you read it whether you've already heard of it or not. I'm not sure if there is any truth to it but it makes sense if there is.
~~~~~~~
At the time of the crucifixion, the dogwood had reached the size of the mighty oak tree. So strong and firm was the wood that it was chosen as the timber for Jesus' cross.
To be used for such a cruel purpose greatly distressed the dogwood. While nailed upon it, Jesus sensed this, and in his compassion said.
~~~~~~~
"Because of your pity for my suffering, never again shall the dogwood tree grow large enough to be used for a cross. Henceforth, it shall be slender, bent, and twisted, and its blossoms shall be in the form of a cross–two long and two short petals.
~~~~~~~
"In the center of the outer edge of each petal will be the print of nails. In the center of the flower, stained with blood, will be a crown of thorns so that all who see it will remember."
Sis. Julie, That was wonderful. It brought back the memory of what Christ did on the cross for me. I am so thankful. I, too, noticed the dogwood trees in bloom here in my part of Texas. It was a sight to behold. connie from Texas
I'm surprised to see so many of you had never heard this legend before. I heard it years ago. I'm glad that you have heard it now and doesn't it make sense if it were true?
pam....please let me know what you find out. How do you know it was me the article was about. There are thousands of Julie Browns in the US. Thanks for letting me know about this. If it is about me it would shock me....I only hope it is good stuff and not hurtful or bad stuff.
I have heard of the legend before but I hadn't seen a picture of the tree.There is a song about it called "The Legend of the Dogwood Tree" by Wilmer Lee and Stoney Cooper.
