The Idol Of Y-O-U

Leviticus 19:4 "Turn ye not unto idols, nor make to yourselves molten gods: I am the LORD your God."

Exodus 20:3 "Thou shalt have no other gods before me."

The biggest and most popular idol in the world today is Y-O-U. What am I talking about you might ask? We make ourselves our own idol.

An idol is that thing that is put before or in the place of God in your life. We hear all the time or think of an idol in some one's life being a statue (such as Buddha) or the virgin Mary or something like that. But I learned or heard my husband say something in his message Sunday of an idol I'd not considered before. The idol of self. I'm sure a lot of us have never worshipped the idol of Buddha or put the virgin Mary in the place of God. I'm sure we've all heard of the idol of the television, or our children or our families or even sports and other activities. But have you ever considered the idol of Y-O-U?

Here are some ways we put ourselves as gods or idols...

1) When you don't pray.
2) When you don't read your Bible.
3) When you don't go to church because you just are too tired to go.
4) When you don't call that person God put on your heart to call.
5) When you don't witness to that person He wanted you to witness to.
6) When you don't give that money He wanted you to give to someone or to the church.

Every time we say no to God and do what we want to do we are making our self an idol. We are putting our desire or our wants before what God wants. Remember...anything we put ahead, above or before God is an idol. That includes our own wants and desires.

So the next time you go to ignore what God wants you to do and do what you want to do...you are making an idol of Y-O-U!!

Hi Sis Julie--I followed you over from Maria Toth's In His Hands.

I love that new post. You are so right. I appreciated your forthrightness (is that a word?).

Too often we forget that. Have a great and healthy day! Kids are better-went to the grocery store all by my lonesome! Party Time!

Very Good Post. I know I have been guilty of allowing self to be an idol.I am just so glad that God doesn't destroy us for committing Idolatry. The Old Testament wasn't so lucky.

I thought I commented on this post, but I don't guess I did...LOL

I really liked this post. It made me stop and think about the times I've put my own wants in place of God's will for me and helped me see that I can be an idol. Thanks!

Thank you all for your comments. It's a blessing to have so many stopping by. I'm glad this post helped many of you like it did me. It is definitely an eye-opener or heart-opener to have the Lord show us such truths as these isn't it? I know He did that for me when He showed me this.

VERY IMPORTANT!

Are you a good person? Take this test and find out.
