Godly Apparel Part IV

The previous post dealt with pants and culottes. In this post I want to take a look at something else.

Modesty has to do with more than just breeches. We need to stay away from anything revealing in the way of our shirts or tops and dresses. To wear ones that show the nakedness of the upper arm which joins the shoulder and reveals the underarm and breast area are not modest. I'm referring to sleeveless tops and dresses. These are things that most ladies don't think of but it's not considered modest. Modest does not only refer to the leg...but also the shoulders, the arms, the neck and the back. These areas are sensually attractive parts of the female body. We need to make sure that our upper arms, our backs up to the top of the shoulders and our front are covered. A good guide for the front is the collar bone. God didn't give us a collar bone for nothing. It serves as a guide to us ladies of how low our shirts should go in the front.

Types of material need to be considered too. We may be covered from head to toe but if the material lays next to the body as to cling to it then it isn't modest. If others can see your under clothes through your clothing then you're not modest.

We need to check ourselves in the mirror. Ask yourself if it is something that the godliest lady you know would wear. Better yet...if you're in tune with the Holy Spirit and will listen to Him if He were to tell you...then ask Him if it is modest. He won't lie to you...but be prepared to respond if He makes you uncomfortable about wearing it. Your clothing should plainly say "I am a lady, and I gladly submit to God's will for my life."

Isaiah 43:7 "For I have created him for my glory..."

Revelation 4:11 "Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory, and honour and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created."

In order for us to truly be a pleasure to the Lord, it only makes sense that we would have to please Him...the more we please Him, the greater pleasure we would be to Him. The closer to Him and the purer we live, the greater pleasure we would be to Him.

God created men and women to be different and we should look different.

This is the last post on this subject of Godly Apparel. I have covered a lot. There are other things that could have been covered but I feel I have done what the Lord wanted me to.

I do want you to understand something though. I have given Scripture and showed you what God says about this issue. It's not what I say...it's what God has had to say.

The wearing of breeches by a lady is not the sin. The disobedience of wearing them when a person has been convicted (convinced) that they are wrong is the sin. James 4:17 "Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin." If God has convicted you in this area of your Christian life then make the move in your heart and life to obey what He has shown you to do. He will bless you for it.

You are a role model (or will be) to someone else in the way you conduct yourself and how you dress. Our goal needs to be that we will be a godly influence on those that are watching our lives. Titus 2:3a "The aged women likewise, that they be in behaviour as becometh holiness..."
