Godly Apparel Part III

In this post I'll be dealing with pants according to the Scriptures. Pants are a man's garment. Breeches (the biblical term for pants) are an article of clothing that God designed for priests to wear in the Scriptures who were all men. In fact, everywhere breeches are mentioned in the Scriptures they are put with men...never women.

Exodus 28:42 "And thou shalt make them linen breeches to cover their nakedness; from the loins even unto the thighs they shall reach:"

Leviticus 6:10 "And the priest shall put on his linen garment, and his linen breeches shall he put upon his flesh, and take up the ashes which the fire hath consumed with the burnt offering on the altar, and he shall put them beside the altar."

Leviticus 16:4 "He shall put on the holy linen coat, and he shall have the linen breeches upon his flesh, and shall be girded with a linen girdle, and with the linen mitre shall he be attired: these are holy garments; therefore shall he wash his flesh in water, and so put them on."

Ezekiel 44:18 "They shall have linen bonnets upon their heads, and shall have linen breeches upon their loins; they shall not gird themselves with any thing that causeth sweat."

Still speaking of the priests here. Breeches are man's apparel. They are trousers that extend to the knee, below the knee or to the ankles. You can liken these to pants, shorts and even culottes. Yes, I said culottes. I will lose some of you here but this is what God showed me.

How are culottes any different? They have material going between the legs just like breeches. Yes they are loose fitting (if they are true culottes and not walking shorts like so many try to pass off as culottes) but loose fitting breeches are still breeches. Culottes are the Christian's way of compromising for dresses. The Bible doesn't speak of culottes for the Christian lady, it speaks of dresses. God doesn't compromise so why should we?

You might use the argument "I can't do certain things in a dress so I have to wear culottes." I do most everything in a dress that anyone else can do. If there is anything I can't do in a dress then I just don't do it. Oftentimes it is something that I have no business doing anyway. I exercise in a skirt. My daughters rode a horse in a skirt. I've played volleyball in a skirt. I've painted my house in a skirt. If a skirt is long and flowey enough then you'll find you can do most anything in one.

Have you noticed that even the world with their symbols for male and female distinguishes a difference between the two. We know which restroom to go into because of the female being in a dress. Ladies wear necklaces with charms for boys and girls. We can distinguish which is which because of the triangle representing a dress on the girl.

Do you know that pants are a symbol of authority? That's where we get the saying "Who wears the pants in the family". Ephesians 5:23 "For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body." The man is to wear the pants in the family both physically speaking and spiritually speaking.
