Christ Or The Flesh?

Philippians 1:21 "For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain."

We need to crucify our flesh DAILY! If you got up this morning and did not pray and ask God to get His help to get through this day and yield to Him then you did not crucify your flesh today. Maybe you did yesterday but you didn't today. What we did yesterday does not last for today. Today is a new day. This crucifying of the flesh is even a minute by minute thing. We can get up in the morning and yield to the Holy Spirit first thing in the morning but then something will come at us (those fiery darts from the devil or the flesh rearing up it's ugly head) and we can become weak and yield to one of those two things (the devil or the flesh). At that moment we have not crucified the flesh. Sometimes we will crucify self and the flesh and then we get weak at one moment or another and what happens? We have just fed it and it resurrects!! God has left our old nature with us in order to give us a choice as to who or what we will serve. The choices we make shows who we are serving. Joshua 24:15 "And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD."

When we don't do what God wants us to do then we are feeding our flesh. What we feed is what will be the strongest. Here are some ways we feed the flesh:

When we don't pray.
When we don't read our Bible.
When we don't go to church.
When we don't witness to that person God just told us to.
When we watch something on tv that contains sin.
When we listen to that music that doesn't glorify God.

If we're feeding the flesh then what are we doing? I'll tell you what we are doing...we are starving the Spirit in our lives. If we feed the Spirit by reading our Bible, praying, going to church, witnessing as God tells us to do, and abstain from worldly lusts then we are starving the flesh. It is much easier to serve God when we're feeding the Spirit and starving the flesh.

Paul testified that he "died daily" (I Corinthians 15:31). Did Paul physically die daily? No!! He crucified his flesh daily by yielding to the Holy Spirit of God in his life. When you crucify something as to kill it then there is nothing to feed. Stop feeding your flesh and crucify it!! If we will stop feeding our flesh and start yielding to God then we will be more effective in our service to the Lord. May we all realize how important this is in our daily lives.

This has always been a difficult issue for me in certain areas of my life. It's hard to die to self. Not I, but Christ!! If we can only remember that we're living for HIM and not us. It's difficult to put the flesh down.
