To Obey Or Not To Obey...That Is The Question

We read in Genesis 22:1-18 how that God told Abraham to take his son Isaac up to the mountain and sacrifice him. As I was reading this last night before going to bed the Lord reminded me of the blessings that came to Abraham as a result of his obedience to the Lord and His Word. Although I'm sure Abraham did not understand why God wanted him to do such a thing he did not question God. He just simply obeyed. Would that we could all be like Abraham when God tells us to do something and we just do it without any questions being asked.

I know in my own life God has shown me things through preaching and through His Word that I needed to do and I've questioned Him or even just plain disobeyed. Abraham did not hesitate. He obeyed the voice of God. Because Abraham obeyed God, he received countless blessings as seen in Genesis 22:16-18 "...By myself have I sworn, saith the LORD, for because thou has done this thing, and hast not withheld thy son, thine only son: That in blessing I will bless thee, and in multiplying I will multiply thy seed as the stars of the heaven, and as the sand which is upon the sea shore; and thy seed shall possess the gate of his enemies; And in thy seed shall all nations of the earth be blessed; because thou hast obeyed my voice."

God even tells us in His Word in I Samuel 15:22 "Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams."

We must all realize that when God shows us something through preaching or through His Word, and we obey Him, He will give us countless blessings as a result. God is not a respecter of persons. Acts 10:34 "Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is not a respecter of persons." Just as God blessed Abraham for his obedience, He will bless you as well.

So when God shows you something that He wants you to do...just obey!! You'll be glad you did!
