The Lord Is Full Of Compassion

Psalm 145:8 "The LORD is gracious, and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy."

God tells us He is gracious. He is the author of grace. I don't think any of us would argue that point.

He is also full of compassion. He knows what we're made of and He is moved with compassion for us.

I once heard a preacher define compassion as "love in action". That really hit me when I heard it and I've liked that definition ever since. Think about it. Words mean one thing...but as the old saying goes "actions speak louder than words."

Others need to know that we serve a God that loves them. And it takes us showing them compassion just as Jesus did. Matthew 14:14 "And Jesus went forth, and saw a great multitude, and was moved with compassion toward them, and he healed their sick." Mark 1:41 "And Jesus, moved with compassion, put forth his hand, and touched him, and saith unto him, I will; be thou clean." Mark 6:34 "And Jesus, when he came out, saw much people, and was moved with compassion toward them, because they were as sheep not having a shepherd: and he began to teach them many things." We need to not only tell them that Jesus loves them and that we love them but put those words into action and show compassion toward them.

vs. 9 "The LORD is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works." Everything God has done He has done in tender mercy. When He banished Adam and Eve from the Garden of Eden He told them He would clothe them. That was His tender mercy. When God condemned the world in Noah's day...He had Noah build an ark. He gave Noah 140 years to do this. That was 140 years of God's tender mercy. He gave those people 140 years to repent.

God did the same for me. I lived 28 years of my life before I was saved....and some of those years were lived wickedly. He showed me many years of tender mercy and then directed my path and my life to Georgia and a bowling center where I would meet a lady named Jackie that would witness to me and plant the seed for me to come tot he place where the Holy Spirit would remove the blinders from my eyes and see my need for Christ. Mrs. Jackie showed me compassion and God showed me tender mercy. AMEN!!

May we all ask God to help us not only tell others but put those words into action and show compassion for others.

P.S. I started a new blog for Christians dealing with cancer (or have a loved one who is). It is at http://christianswithcancer.wordpress.com - maybe you can forward some folks there and we can be a blessing to each other! :-)

Sis. Julie,
You're right, many times we forget where God has brought us from and we forget to show the same compassion that was shown to us.

Blessings,
Sis. Tammy

sis. mimi....Thank you so much for saying that. I'm so thankful the Lord let our paths cross through blogging. You have been a blessing to me as well!! Just think...had I not met Jackie and had her influence in my life I wouldn't be blogging for the Lord today and wouldn't have met all my blogging friends and brothers and sisters in Christ. I praise the Lord for each one of you.

God's mercy endureth forever. It's selfish to keep Him to ourselves.

MRs Julie I am thankful for God's compassion on me. I like that definition love in action. The church in general has lost their compassion for lost souls. Good Post.
