Go Forward

Exodus 14:15 "And the LORD said unto Moses, Wherefore criest thou unto me? speak unto the children of Israel, that they go forward."

God said Moses to tell the children of Israel to go forward. This was when they were being pushed by Pharaoh's chariots and the Red Sea laid in wait before them.

As we read Exodus 14...we see some things that are associated with going forward. There are often problems with going forward. The Israelites had some fearful ideas about the present situation they were facing. Verses 10 and 11 "And when Pharaoh drew nigh, the children of Israel lifted up their eyes, and, behold, the Egyptians marched after them; and they were sore afraid: and the children of Israel cried out unto the LORD. And they said unto Moses, Because there were no graves in Egypt, hast thou taken us away to die in the wilderness? wherefore hast thou dealt thus with us, to carry us forth out of Egypt?" What they saw caused them to forget about the great miracles God had done to get them out of Egypt.

They were also forgetful about the past. They were saying in a sense that they missed the things they had in Egypt. This is what happens to us when we dwell on the past. There isn't anything back there that is good for us. So God says...."Go forward."

They also had some false ideas about the future. They thought they were going to die in the wilderness. That was not God's plan for them. He wanted to part the Red Sea and lead them into the Promise Land.

There is also purpose for going forward. Verse 4 "And I will harden Pharaoh's heart, that he shall follow after them; and I will be honoured upon Pharaoh, and upon all his host; that teh Egyptians may know that I am the LORD. And they did so." Verses 17 and 18 ""And I behold, I will harden the hearts of the Egyptians, and they shall follow them: and I will get me honour upon Pharaoh, and upon all his host, upon his chariots, and upon his horsemen. And the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I have gotten me honour upon Pharaoh, upon his chariots, and upon his horsemen." God said it was so that He would get some honor and and that all of Egypt would know that He was the Lord.

As I think about this...I see many places where we need to go forward. Let us go forward in our soulwinning, our service and our stewardship.

MRs Julie great post. You are right just like the children of Israel we sometimes fail to go forward because of what is in our past. I pray would help us to go forward in the three area's you mention. Preacher did a great job last night with his message I believe several in our church got help. We still miss you and wish other circumstances would have allowed you to come. Hope you are feeling better.

bro. tim...thank you so much for commenting. I know you are really busy with Preacher being there with y'all. I'm missing being there tremendously. But the Lord knows I couldn't be. I knew the Lord would use him there. And I have no doubt He will use him tonight and again tomorrow night. I miss him sooooo much though!!

Sometimes going foward is a hard thing to do. When we do what God wants though, there is always such a blessing waiting!

Great post. Wow. I once read a book called 'Failing Forward.' It was kind of along the same lines. Don't be afraid of failing or messing up, just trust God and keep going forward.
