Eyes Are Watching

Proverbs 5:21 "For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and he pondereth all his goings."

My husband has been taking us verse by verse through the book of Proverbs in Sunday School for the past several weeks. I have learned much from this study. Some things I already knew...but this week he was going through chapter 5 with us and he mentioned something that really struck me. It wasn't anything profound or new. He just made a statement that God put on my heart to post about.

He mentioned how that those of us who have children act or speak differently in front of our children. We don't say certain things in their presence because we don't want to teach them bad habits or bad things and we don't want them repeating them.

We also do the same if our spouse is around. We won't speak to a certain person in a certain way because our spouse is there watching us or listening to us. We won't act a certain way because they are with us. The question he posed was if we'll refrain from such things in our children's or our spouse's presence then why would we do them or say them if they aren't present? If it isn't appropriate when they are with us then why is it appropriate when they aren't. Doesn't the Bible say (and we know) that God's eyes are always on us? Don't we realize that He is watching and listening? Is it appropriate to say or do those things in His presence? If we are saved He is always with us. He takes notice of everything.

So the next time you go to do something you know you wouldn't want someone else to hear or see....remember that God is seeing and listening!!

Proverbs 15:3 "The eyes of the LORD are in every place, beholding the evil and the good."

This is such a great point. I use to do and say lots of things when my children were not around that I would not have said or done had they been around. As I grow in my relationship with Christ, I have come to that exact realization . . . if my kids are not around, God still IS!!!

We need to be consistent in our walks with the Lord.

People will justify wrong movies and entertainment this way. If it is inappropriate for a child to watch (as far as content goes), then it is inappropriate for an adult to watch too! (Of course, that is taking into account that some children may be too young to watch certain things that are alright, as they might be scared or not understand it - such as an excellent documentary/movie on storms, for example. Nothing evil in itself - but the thunder and lightning would scare some children.)

I wanted to invite you and your readers over to a blog I started tonight. For about 2 1/2 years I sent out Daily Devotionals, which included many articles and studies by others. Some were links and some were full articles on other websites or message boards - but unfortunately over time, some of those websites went down or are no longer in existence. I no longer have programs to edit my pages on Earnestly Contending, so I stopped sending out articles by others. The ones on my Study Blog are by me, except for the ones written by Kate in the series on Numbers In The Bible we worked on together.

Here is the link to my Blog that will contain articles by sound men of the faith: Faithful Men Of God

I haven't yet had a chance to work on the layout of the blog (ie. other links, and extras on the side margin), but you can access what articles I have put up so far.

This is so true! So true! Proverbs teaches you a lot about yourself as a parent. There is so much instruction there.

Great post as usual Julie. I have many friends that act totally different around their parents than when they are not around. Grown people mind you. I have always thought that was so sad. If I can be the real me around my own mother then there is something very wrong.

I try to always be the same with everyone.

Love you sis,

Lyndy
