Have You Forsaken The Lord?

Mark 14:50 "And they all forsook him, and fled."

The "they" in this refers to those who were closest to Christ. They had seen many miracles. They were there when Jesus raised the dead. They saw Him heal the sick and they witnessed Him giving sight to the blind man. They heard Him teach and was there when He fed the multitudes with a little boy's lunch. Although they saw all these things they still "forsook him, and fled" when they were in danger.

In Luke chapter 5 He was more important to them than even their own jobs were. In Luke 5:11 "And when they had brought their ships to land, they forsook all, and followed him." At this time their relationship with Christ was new. They saw Him as One they wanted to follow.

We aren't much different than these men. He raised us from death unto life. We've experienced His goodness in our lives. We received peace that passes all understanding. And we still forsake Him in many areas of our life.

Some areas we forsake Him are these....

***Our relationships--Some of us have friends that we know He doesn't approve of yet we choose to keep those friends and forsake what He tells us about those friends. II Corinthians 6:14 "Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?" II Corinthians 6:17 "Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you,"

***Our finances--Either we are doing fine in this area and don't feel we have a need to seek Him or we are struggling in this area and are angry about it so we choose to forsake Him. Philippians 4:19 "But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus." Proverbs 28:11 "The rich man is wise in his own conceit;..."

***Our family--We have family that aren't living right so we get frustrated and impatient and forsake our praying for them or we find it hard to forgive. Luke 23:34 "Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do..."

***Our fellowship with Him--We go through periods of time where we feel He is nowhere to be found. We hit a "dry spell" in our prayer life so we give up and forsake that time with Him. Jeremiah 33:3 "Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not."

***Our worship of Him in His House--Whatever your reason for not going to church...go. If you know God wants you in the place He has you to serve and worship...go regardless of the how you feel. Hebrews 10:25 "Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as the manner of some is; but exhorting one another: and so much the more, as ye see the day approaching."

These are a few of the areas we have a tendency to forsake Him. In what area have you forsaken Him? He has never forsaken you!! Hebrews 13:5 "Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee." He has promised us that He will never leave us nor forsake us. How can we forsake Him no matter what the reason may be?

Hi Julie,
Thank you for the reminder, He should be our main focus and yet we fail Him daily. He will never leave us or forsake us yet we do back half of what He deserves from us.

Mrs Julie very good post. You are right so many times we do slide into forsaking him in these area's. We may not do it in our actions but we do with our hearts. How could we forsake him after he has done so much for us, and he gives us the promise of not forsaking us, I don't know why I guess because we live this life to much in the flesh

sis. cristina...I'm afraid that sometimes we are even guilty of doing less than half of what we should.

bro. tim....I believe you got that exactly right. If we would live less in the flesh and more in the Spirit we would have not be apt to forsake Him like we do!! Good point!!

Julie,
Great Post... we tend to forget all the individual areas that we can "forsake Him"
we think that as long as we are Christians that we have not forsaken him... but how wrong we can be..
thanks for the reminder

sis. mimi...I was thinking as long as I was reading my Bible and praying that I was not forsaking Him. But He showed me through this study that there are many areas we can forsake Him in and still not be forsaking Him in others. It doesn't matter if we forsake Him in one area or all areas...we are still forsaking Him.

VERY IMPORTANT!
