Excuses

I Peter 3:15 "But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:"

When you speak to people about the Lord...do you get excuses from them? Recently my husband filled in for Bro. Tim in our adult Sunday School class and he gave us some excuses that are given when talking to people about Christ and some things we can give them from the Word of God in response. I pray these help you like they helped me.

---> "I can't live the Christian life."

***(Jude 24) "Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present you faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy,"

***(Philippians 1:6) "Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:"

***(Galatians 2:20) "I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself for me."

---> "I've always been a Christian."

***(Psalm 51:5) "Behold, I was shapen in iniquity; and in sin did my mother conceive me."

***(John 1:12) "But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name:"

***(John 3:3) "Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."

---> "I'm a church member."

***(John 3:3) "Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God."

***(John 14:6) "Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me."

***(I John 5:11-12) "And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life."

---> "Death ends everything...when I die that's it."

***(Hebrews 9:27) "And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment."

***(Revelation 20:12-15) "And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God; and the books were opened: and another book was opened, which is the book of life: and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books, according to their works. And the sea gave up the dead which were in it; and death and hell delivered up the dead which were in them: and they were judged every man according to their works. And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death. And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire."

***(Luke 16:23-24) "And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom. And he cried and said, Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus, that he may dip the tip of his finger in water, and cool my tongue; for I am tormented in this flame."

---> "Everybody goes to Heaven."

***(Mark 16:16) "He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned."

***(John 3:36) "He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him."

---> "God is too good to send people to Hell."

***(Mark 16:16) "He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned."

***(II Thessalonians 2:12) "That they all might be damned who believed not the truth, but had pleasure in unrighteousness."

---> "I don't believe God exists."

***(Romans 1:19-20) "Because that which may be known of God is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. For the invisible things of thim from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse:"

***(Psalm 19:1) "The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork."

---> "There's too many hypocrites."

***(Romans 14:12) "So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God."

---> "Sincerity is all that matters...no matter what you believe."

***(Proverbs 14:12) "There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death."

---> "I'm too great of a sinner."

***(Hebrews 7:25) "Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them."

***(John 6:37) "All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out."

---> "I need to get better first."

***(Luke 18:13-14) "And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner. I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted."

There are many more excuses that people give...but these are a few and verses you can use in response. If we will just get in the Word of God...we will find an answer for every excuse someone gives us. May God help us to have an answer to everyone for everything that we are told or asked.

HA HA!! You KNOW I had to laugh when I saw that title! :)

I LOVED that Sunday School Lesson!! I have heard those excuses a million times. I knew some of the verses, but some of them I had not even thought about using. I wrote them all down, I'm sure that I will need them!

Love you,
Jessica

Amen that is a good Sunday School lesson and so true. So many with excuses yet none will stand before our God with any excuse.

All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: 2 Timothy 3:16

I love the way your husband used scripture alone to counter these arguments. Great list . . . perfectly organized! Thank you for sharing this. :o)

sis. jodi...thank you so much for taking the time to read this post. This post is a bit longer than I like to make them...but there was so much I wanted to get in this post that I couldn't narrow it down to just a few of them. Thank you for also leaving a comment. It took me a little bit to get it typed up too!! I like my posts to look well organized in format and also in color. That is the perfectionist in me...which is not necessarily a good thing.
