We Need Revival In Our Homes (Part II)

Ephesians 5:22-24 "Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing."

Have you ever thought about this? A church cannot be built with all men and it can't be built with all women. it takes families to build a church.

There are proper roles in the home. In (vs. 22) "Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord" we see the role of the wife. The wife is to submit to her husband. Webster's Dictionary defines submit as "to yield oneself to the authority or will of another." God also specifies to us that wives are to submit to their "own" husbands. We are not to submit to ourselves or to other men but to our own husband. And it's to be til death do we part.

God put a head over us wives as well. This is the man's role in the home. (vs. 23) "For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body." (Genesis 3:16) "...and thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee." The pastor doesn't rule over the wife...the husband does. Pastors should never encourage a couple to divorce. In cases of abuse there is nothing wrong with separation but never divorce. The pastor should do all he can to try to help a couple in trouble in their marriage.

The question of our day in the home is the question of authority. We have women who are allowed (or due to sorry husbands who just won't) to be in authority in the home. We have women as business owners of major corporations. We have women running for president and other offices they have no business being involved in. This type of thing gives a woman a sense of independence and a lack of seeing a need to submit or depend on her husband. Because of this many homes are out of order in the roles that each one is in.

So we see how that God's order for the home is that the husband is to be the head of the home (or supposed to be) and the wife is to submit to the husband. Tomorrow's message that you'll see my notes from will deal with the children and their role in the home.

These are my notes taken from a message preached by Bro. Marion Atkinson at Faith Baptist Camp on August 9, 2007.

Once again, great post. I totally agree about wives being submissive to their own husbands and not somebody elses. I think it's interesting that women are told to be keepers AT home not OF the home. You can be a keeper OF something without spending a lot of time there, but if you are a keeper AT something, you ought to be spending the majority of your time there. I am convinced that having a husband and children is my ministry.

I also found a very interesting verse this morning where it says that God maketh the barren woman to keep the home...which means that even childless women are supposed to be keepers at home. (I've heard many say that if they don't have kids the wife can work, but not according to the Bible they can't). That is unless they have a home business or something that is under the authority of their own husband.

katy-anne....thank you for bringing that up about the women without children. I didn't know of that verse you are speaking of. I'm going to find that one. I've just always heard that when the Lord refers to women being keepers at home that it refers to ALL women no matter the age. But to know there is a verse that specifically mentions the barren women (without children) then that covers that even more. Thanks!!

"He maketh the barren woman to keep house, and to be a joyful mother of children. Praise ye the Lord." Psalm 113:9. The only thing that confuses me is that it says that the barren woman is made to be a joyful mother of children also...and barren means a woman that has no children...so if you can figure that one out let me know lol. But it appears that God wants even childless women to keep the house.

katy-anne...I had actually found the verse before you got back with me on what it was. I found it a bit confusing when I first read it to and I'm researching to see if I can determine what God is trying to say here. I'll try to get back with you and the other readers on this. Thank you.

I believe that verse simply means that instead of sorrowing in the fact that you can't bare a child, take pleasure in the little ones around you. We can all mother a child. We can't all mommy them, but we can certainly mother them and be a godly influence on their little lives. Take interest in the children in your neighborhood, your church, etc. A lot of barren women have a tendency to separtate themselves from situations where there are children for different reasons, whatever that might be for them. I know in a friend's situation, she was so grieved over not being able to have a child of her own that she stayed away from children altogether. Each of her friend's pregnancies sent her into depression. Eventually she and her husband adopted a daughter and now they are grandparents. But adoption is not always possible for every situation. So I think that verse is saying that we can be a joyful mother OF children without actually baring a child of our own. That's just how I've always taken that verse. Someone else may have a different opinion.

sis. kristi...that is how my husband is interpreting that verse to mean. But he also says that it still says that even though a woman cannot have children of her own that God is still saying she is to keep her house. So it does go with Titus 2:5 where it speaks of the woman being a "keeper at home". That won't sit well with women who choose not to believe the Bible tells this to be so for the woman. But God makes it quite clear. Thank you for helping Sister.

Yeah while the second part wasn't as clear, the first part was crystal clear. Now I know why my pastor teaches that no married woman should or "needs" to work. He says that God holds the man entirely responsible for providing for his family. I wrote an article about being a keeper at home today.

katy-anne...I always knew it to be understood that an unmarried woman should never work outside the home due to the independent spirit it gives the woman (married or not). So I had always heard it preached as thus and understood it to be so but had not heard the verse in Psalm that you brought out. I'm so glad you brought that out to me so I'll know where to find the verse to dispute that very thing from now on. Thank you again. I'm going to your site to read your post about this issue.

Good Post! I have enjoyed these posts on revival. I would not say I will not take a church without 100 percent of the vote but I don't think I would take it without only 75 percent of the vote unless the Lord tells me too Thank You for you prayers we will be praying for you all in the morning,

I do so wish that women would realize their place in this world. So many woman look down upon women who do stay home and do not do anything to "better" themselves. But what could be better than following God's word? I agree that women today are getting into roles that they just have no business being in and it is truly sad to watch.

Another awesome post!!!

"He maketh the barren woman to keep house, and to be a joyful mother of children. Praise ye the Lord." Psalm 113:9.

Could it simply be stating that God can change even the barren woman so that she does bear children - ie. as a promise? There are many places in the Bible where a barren wife later was given children. So it is not stating a barren woman will keep house - but that even a barren woman can have children (if in the will of God, of course). In the Psalms and other places, Hebrew poetry gives parallelisms, which means they are not opposite statements, but complementary ones - if that is the case here, God is stating the barren woman will no longer be barren - she will keep the home and rejoice in her children. Hope that made sense. (I have not studied this verse out yet, so realize this is my own impression of what it is saying, and I am stating it merely as an opinion of what it could be saying.)
