I'm Not Sure God Can Use Me

Exodus 3:11-12 "And Moses said unto God, Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt? And he said, Certainly I will be with thee; and this shall be a token unto thee, that I have sent thee: When thou has brought forth the people out of Egypt, ye shall serve God upon this mountain."

Many people live with a "what's the use" attitude. They don't think they can measure up to someone else's quality of service...so they think "why bother". You see this in the lives of alot of saved people. Some people have told me personally..."Since the pastor and Sis. So-And-So are more spiritually mature...God is going to use them and not me. Afterall...who am I in comparison to them? I know the sins I have committed and the weaknesses I have. God can't use me. Besides...my area of influence would be so small...what's the use of even trying?" I have even felt this way before.

Some people get it in their heads that they can't do anything...however they need to use whatever talents, spiritual gifts, and abilities they have for the Lord's work. God gives us many examples in His Word of people who thought they couldn't be used. Moses was one of them. In verse 11 of our reading for today he told God "Who am I, that I should go unto Pharaoh, and that I should bring forth the children of Israel out of Egypt?"

We should not let ourselves fall into the trap of thinking that we have no ability. God can use even the person who thinks they are incapable and thinks that everyone else is more usable. We should not compare ourselves to anyone. He tells us this in II Corinthians 10:12 "For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that comment themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise." God makes each person a unique individual...there is no one else quite like YOU!!

Have the faith to believe that God will empower you to do His work. God can use anyone willing to be used. Many people in God's Word had major flaws...yet God used them mightily. Moses had a speech problem. He was also a murderer. So was Paul. David committed adultery. Jonah had a root of bitterness and anger in his life. Jacob was a deceiver. If God WILLINGLY used these men then He can use you. You just have to let Him!!

I will give you a personal example in my own life. When I was at my home church my pastor came to me one Sunday morning and asked me to teach a teen girls Sunday School class. My immediate reaction to him was "No Bro. Darrell...I can't teach that class." He told me that was fine. But he was praying for me and I knew he was. My thinking was that I didn't have enough knowledge of the Bible to teach that class. Afterall...I had only been saved about 3 years and there were many other ladies in the church that were more qualified to teach those young ladies than me. One service the Holy Spirit spoke to me about this thing of being willing to do whatever God wanted me to do. It wasn't my pastor that wanted me to teach that class...it was God!! So in my telling my pastor "no" I was telling God "no". I went to the altar and asked the Lord to forgive me then I went to my pastor and asked him to forgive me and told him I was willing to teach the class if he felt I was the one God wanted for that class. I truly enjoyed teaching those young ladies and God used me in ways I had no idea He could. To this day I still have girls that I taught that come to me and thank me for how God used me in their lives in that class. That is not to MY glory but to GOD'S glory!!! So if God can use someone like me He can use anyone!! Just be willing to do whatever God wants you to do and have the faith to believe God for it!!

Hebrews 11:6 "But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him."

"So in my telling my pastor "no" I was telling God "no"."

Amen, Sis. Julie! This is so very true! How many times have we inadvertently told the Lord no! I'm so guilty of this very thing. What a forgiving God we serve - the God of second/third/fourth etc. changes :-)

Good post!!!

Sis. Kate....you are so right about God giving us so many chances. I can't tell you how many times I've told the Lord no when He wanted me to do something. And each time I go ahead and do it He uses me and He gets the glory out of it. We just need to do whatever it is He wants us to do.

Sis Julie, I know I often feel this way. Not being a mother or a wife, I often feel that I have nothing to offer. Then I am reminded of all the things I have come through with God's help and realize if I can so can others.

Love, Lyndy

sis. lyndy....being a mother or a wife doesn't make you not usable. God can and will still use you. He only desires that you be willing!!

So glad you were able to teach that class, Julie. Teen girls are a special ministry--I did it once and it was extremely rewarding. May the Lord continue to use you in the life of these girls for years to come.

What a great post Julie! I too, have had those times when I felt like God couldn't possibly use me--and I have been guilty of turning away from an opportunity that I knew was from the Lord. Thankfully, I the Lord forgave and even gave me another chance. I am so thankful for the patience of our Lord! : )

maxine....thank you so much for stopping by. It truly was a joy teaching that class and I still have a desire to teach a teen girls class. Lord willing...He will give me another opportunity in our church where my husband pastors now someday.

Great post! I have found that when I answer God's calling like that, He uses it to grow me and what a blessing that is, too. I am always reminded of the saying, "God doesn't call the qualified... He qualifies the called."
Thank you for sharing this.

What a wonderful post and thank you for sharing your personal experiece! God can use anyone, even those who do not do as they should. Take a look at how He used Samson.

sis. cindy...you are so right. There are many examples given in the Word of God. I believe God did that so we would have no excuse.

VERY IMPORTANT!

Are you a good person? Take this test and find out.
